To date, very few side effects have been observed with MeRT℠ therapy. The most commonly reported is a mild headache at the stimulation site, which can last 1 to 2 hours and is typically relieved with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Other possible side effects include hyperactivity, overstimulation, or elevated mood related to dopamine release. There is also an approximate 1-in-10,000 risk of seizure from brain stimulation; MeRT℠ therapy is designed to minimize this risk.

Brain Treatment Center further limits stimulation intensity to reduce the risk of seizure even more.
