It was absolutely terrifying to not know what was wrong with me

“It was absolutely terrifying to not know what was wrong with me or how to fix the problem. BTC not only identified the deteriorated state of my brainwave activity, they helped restore its function. The healing I experienced at BTC put my life back on track.”

MeRT Receives U.S. FDA Clearance — PTSD Treatment

In June 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared MeRT for the treatment of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Based on the announcement by BTC’s U.S. headquarters; Brain Treatment Center Korea is an official licensed partner operating the same technology.

Mental health for police officers and firefighters on the front line

Devastating accident scenes, the tension of rescue and response, threatening situations — they repeat as part of the job. Repeated exposure to trauma can lead to PTSD symptoms such as sleep problems, hypervigilance, and intrusive memories. In a profession where “toughing it out” is the norm, an objective EEG-based assessment can be the first step toward recovery.

The MeRT℠ Approach

No two people are the same, even with similar symptoms.

Police officers and firefighters who are first on the scene, and anyone who has experienced a sudden accident, disaster, or violence — every trauma is different, yet the way suffering appears is surprisingly similar. We measure each person’s brainwaves and design a personalized treatment protocol to match.

About MeRT℠
PTSD Brain Patterns
Typically associated with disruption in the front of the brain

In many cases, PTSD manifests with disruption in the front of the brain. It is common to see two competing alpha frequencies in the frontal lobe, or slow delta and theta waves drowning out what should be a single strong alpha rhythm.

BTC’s qEEG (quantitative EEG) identifies each person’s intrinsic alpha frequency, which informs an individualized protocol aimed at reducing competing brainwave activity. As the chaos in brainwave activity subsides, improvements in sleep, cognitive processing, and emotional stability have been observed.

Results
4 weeks of treatment, 62% reduction in PCL-M scores

In a double-blinded randomized controlled trial, patients treated with MeRT for 4 weeks saw a 62% reduction in PCL-M scores, a standard PTSD symptom scale. The MeRT group improved more than the sham group over the course of treatment. Individual results may vary.

First Responders in Korea
For those whose job is to face danger

In Korea, police officers and firefighters are among the professions most repeatedly exposed to trauma on duty. The accidents and deaths faced on every call, self-blame over rescues that came too late, and memories of violence and threat can leave traces on the nervous system long after. In a culture where “enduring is part of the job,” symptoms are easy to hide — but PTSD is a matter of the brain, not willpower. A qEEG brainwave assessment is an objective starting point for understanding your brain’s condition, and all consultations are kept strictly confidential.

MeRT: U.S. FDA Clearance for PTSD Treatment

In June 2026, the U.S. FDA cleared MeRT for the treatment of PTSD. According to BTC’s U.S. headquarters, this is the first FDA clearance for a personalized neuromodulation approach indicated for PTSD. This is based on U.S. FDA standards and does not guarantee domestic regulatory status or individual treatment outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MeRT treatment safe?

MeRT is a non-invasive magnetic stimulation therapy performed without anesthesia or hospitalization. For PTSD specifically, MeRT received U.S. FDA clearance in June 2026 (U.S. standards). It is applied after a medical evaluation confirms suitability, and no serious adverse events have been reported.

Can I receive MeRT while taking PTSD medication (SSRIs, anxiolytics, etc.)?

Yes. MeRT is designed to complement, not replace, medication. You can continue your current prescriptions while receiving treatment.

Which PTSD symptoms have shown change?

Meaningful changes have been observed across sleep, hypervigilance, avoidance, and intrusive symptoms. Results vary depending on each person’s condition and environment.

Does it apply to PTSD from work-related trauma, such as police or fire service?

Yes. Including work-related trauma — accident scenes, rescue operations, exposure to violence — treatment can be applied regardless of the cause of trauma, once a medical evaluation confirms suitability. All consultations are strictly confidential.

When do results start to appear?

It varies by patient, but changes have typically been observed within a 4–6 week course of treatment. Your medical team monitors individual progress through follow-up qEEG measurements.

How long does treatment take?

Generally 4–6 weeks are recommended. The exact duration is determined by your medical team based on qEEG results and individual condition.

Wondering if MeRT is right for you?

Start with a personalized consultation based on a qEEG brainwave assessment. All consultations are confidential.
